William Aris Alen Award
The judge for this year’s art show will be Mortlake-born artist Robert Whitson.
Rob holds a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) from the Ballarat College of Advanced Education, a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art) (Honours) and a Master of Arts (Visual Art) from the University of Ballarat. In 2008 and 2009 Rob was the Artist in Residence, Arts Academy, at the University of Ballarat.
Rob is an established artist who has exhibited his work in many Western District galleries such as the Ballarat Fine Arts Gallery, the Warrnambool Gallery, Mt Sturgeon Station and the Flanagan Art Exhibition, St Patrick’s College, Ballarat. His work forms part of the permanent collections of the Maria and Allan Myers Art Collection, the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, Federation University and the Moyne Shire. His paintings South West Book of Winds (2015) and Cargeri Creek Crossing (2017) adorn the cover of Richard Zachariah’s bestseller on the Western District - The Vanished Land. Rob’s piece “Line’s End” (oil on linen) was awarded the inaugural William Aris Alen Award at the Mortlake Art Show in 2016.
Rob’s credentials, artistic talent and strong connection with the Mortlake community will be invaluable in inspiring, encouraging and developing our local artists’ talent and promoting ongoing growth and respect for the event.
